The 5 Most Awkward Moments at the 2014 Miss America Pageant

And surprisingly, nobody fell flat on their face.

The Introductions

It's become customary for each Miss America contestant to introduce herself with a quick tidbit of trivia in her pre-recorded introduction, but some were more puzzling than informative. Miss North Dakota said, "From the state with the lowest unemployment, I'm looking for a job tonight." Miss Vermont stated, "Even though I'm lactose intolerant, Ben and Jerry are still my two favorite guys." And Miss DC said, "Listening to your phone calls from the nation's capital … Just kidding!"

Miss Florida's Knee

The fact that Myrrhanda Jones from Florida competed in a bedazzled knee brace isn't terribly awkward in and of itself, but we're pretty sure she felt plenty embarrassed after becoming injured during her talent rehearsal just a few days prior to the pageant. But despite tearing her right knee's ACL and MCL, Jones performed her routine and managed to win the talent portion.

The Q and A

Is it just us, or does it seem terribly unfair to ask Miss California about chemical weapons in Syria, and throw Miss Oklahoma a question about Miley Cyrus at the VMAs? ABC described the questions as "equally difficult," but we're not so sure.

The Host Getting Booed

Miss Florida continued to have a tough time last night. During the interview portion, host Chris Harrison (of ABC's "The Bachelor") cut her off in the middle of the interview portion and got booed."It's a timed answer!" Harrison told the crowd, adding, "Don't make me the bad guy!" Apparently, his pleas didn't help, because the booing only got louder after that.

The Racist Tweets

New York's Nina Davuluri was crowned Miss America at the end of the pageant, becoming the first woman of Indian heritage to ever take the title. But that didn't sit well with certain Twitter users, who used the social media site to share their racist comments. "I have to rise above that," Davuluri stated in a conference following her win.
