With our hectic schedules, sometimes we need to giveoff the illusion that our house is tidy instead of really cleaning it.

After all isn't it better to hide a mess than acknowledge it's there?

Since time is limited, use these room-by-room tips to fake a clean house in a matter of minutes.

Living Room

Assign one side of your couch cushions for guests; that way when they come you can flip them over so the fabric looks clean and fresh. Turn the cushions back over as soon as the guest leave. To quickly get rid of fur, wet the fingertips of rubber gloves and gently glide your hand across the furniture. Organize scattered books and publications by either stacking them in neat piles or arranging them in a decorative basket. When it comes to hiding those pesky sofa stains, take a freshly cleaned blanket and drape it over the stain - no one will even know it's there. No need to clean your windows, just shut the curtain panels and they'll looked polished.

Kitchen

Sometimes the pile of dishes seems endless, even when the dishwasher is filled to the brim. If this happens and you're having guests over, store your dirty dishes in stockpots and wash them when everyone is gone. If a strong aroma paralyzes the room, simply boil nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, and orange peels until the stench fades away. While the drawings and notes on the fridge may be sentimental, take them down and put them in a plastic bag; you can sort through them later. If you want to pretend your dirty hand towels are spotless, just fold them over the oven or handles and they'll look as good as new.

To get excess hair off of the bathroom rug, simply use a lint roller over the areas and the mess will disappear. While everyone has damp towles hanging from the back of their door, clean up this look by drapping a bathrobe over them. Always make sure there are fresh towels when guests arrive. It's also easy to let old cosmetic brushes pile up on the sink counter, but a simple solution to this is putting a canvas basket on top of the toilet. It's small so it won't take up room and it cuts the mess down significantly. Lastly, light a candle; every room has a fresher feel with a candle burning.

Home Office

To stash stray office supplies, place everyday items such as paperclips, pencils, and staples in decorative stationary boxes or filing containers. Take down all of your notes and calendars from your bulletin board. Put them in labeled folders; it'll make the room look less cluttered and it'll be painless to find what you need. Store wayward Post-It notes under the computer keyboard. This will temporarily alleviate the mess, and best of all no one will know they're there. To complete the organized look, when your done for the day, put your computer mouse and keyboard away in a drawer, leaving only the mousepad out.
