DIY: Faux Fireplace Chalkboard

To get the look, Jamie painted a wooden fireplace mantel white.

Tip: You can purchase the materials to build a mantel from just about any home renovation store. If you want a truly vintage look, you might be able to spot one at an antiques shop or flea market. 

She then painted a board with chalkboard paint and slipped it behind the mantel to cover up the outlet.
