Every year, as we start thinking about the Top 100, the same thing happens: panic. How will we ever unearth so many worthy products? We have high standards, after all.

But judging from the items that follow, we needn't have worried. There's the ice tray that won't spill, the drain plug that sheds clogs, and the wood decking that resists rot. Then there's carpet that stands up to an elephant and all that a six-ton pachyderm can dish out.

In the end, our editors found many more than 100, so we took those that almost made it and decided to share them online:

1. Got Juice?

Vert VRT350 by Omega, Omegajuicers.com, $380

What gets lost in the juicing craze is, well, fiber. This auger-style fruit-and-vegetable pulverizer gives you the option of more pulp, and it won't hog your entire counter.

3. Steam Clean your Floors

MultiforcePro SS-25 Steam Mop, by Haan, Haanusa.com, $240

Blast germs and crud with 212-degree vapor, aka steam, and you can do without gummy cleaners and chemicals. The scrubbing motion works equally well on grout lines and deck stains, so you can use this cleaner outdoors as well.

4. Learn from your Fiddling

Nest Learning Thermostat, by Nest, Nest.com, $250

If you turn the temp up every time you come home, this puck-size Wi-Fi-enabled thermostat will learn those patterns and start to do the work for you. It also senses when you're home or not, and adjusts your heating and cooling accordingly.

5. Bring the Outdoors In

Four Seasons Indoor/Outdoor Rugs, by Safavieh, Safavieh.com, From $160

Most outdoor rugs, made of polypropylene, are rough on your bare feet, but this one is made with a plush loop pile that you'll want to sink your toes into—all the better to admire the pleasing patterns.
